Research topics

Key words: homogeneous catalysis – abundant metals – cross-coupling – photocatalysis – dynamic covalent chemistry – dynamic materials.

Our main research focus aims at developing abundant metal-catalyzed reactions for the formation of valuable building blocks. A panel of iron- and cobalt-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions between alkyl halides and Grignard reagents has been developed allowing the access to libraries of functionalized molecules. Besides offering an attractive alternative to expensive rare metal catalysts, the use of iron and cobalt complexes opens the way to novel reactivity. Particularly, the transient formation of radical species allows revisiting some classical radical induced rearrangements.

As ubiquitous, stable and inexpensive materials, carboxylic acids appear as ideal partners for C-C bond formation. One of our recent objectives is to develop iron-catalyzed, visible-light induced decarboxylative transformations allowing to turn simple and ideally biobased materials into functionalized building blocks.

In tight collaboration with “Chemistry and Macromolecular design”, we work on pluridisciplinary projects targeting the identification of reversible reactions that can be implemented in polymer matrixes to afford dynamic materials. Innovative vitrimers as well as self-healing injectable hydrogels are prepared and characterized.
